“I started with the Movement Team in 2008 as a volunteer in the VIP area. I thought that it would be a fun way to learn the event business, as I had just begun working professionally in the events industry for an event rental company. Every day, I wo
rked hard and had a blast doing so. I guess that I worked so hard that the organizers hired me to manage and decorate the VIP area the following year. I was so honored to be a part of the team, as I love electronic music and I enjoy working with the Movement crew, every year feels like a mini reunion.
As a child, I spent a lot of time with my family at Hart Plaza. During the winter we would ice skate in the bowl area and then in the summers, we went to the ethnic festivals and concerts there. Seeing Hart Plaza transformed for this festival is surreal, and being behind the scenes is a dream come true.
While working with a dedicated team and many volunteers, it is one of my favorite times of the year as we race against the clock to construct all of the details. The first year that I worked on Movement, I ordered most of the decorations from a local rental company. But each year since then, my team and I have pushed to make the area feel more special by incorporating custom art and design elements. I am looking forward to bringing a new vision to life and to work alongside my Movement family this spring.” – Melinda Anderson, VIP Experience Coordinator #MovementDetroit
